sle7 صلح

Moroccan Darija · verb

“sle7” (صلح) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to be of use.

Meanings

  1. to be of use
  2. to suit, be fitting
  3. to repair (form ṣelleḥ)

Usage

The verb ṣleḥ (imperfect yṣleḥ) mainly means "to be of use, to be good for". It takes l-: ma kayṣleḥ l-walu, "it's good for nothing". Said of a person, it is a rather harsh reproach: "he's good for nothing". The sense "to repair, to fix" belongs to the doubled form ṣelleḥ (imperfect yṣelleḥ), which is also used in the sense of "to reconcile". For a simple repair, people also often say ṣawb (to fix) or qad. The noun ṣ-ṣulḥ means "reconciliation".
