srre3 سرّع

Moroccan Darija · verb

“srre3” (سرّع) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to accelerate, to go faster.

Meanings

  1. to accelerate, to go faster
  2. to hurry up, to quicken one's pace
  3. to hasten, to move something along faster

Usage

Srre3 is used first of all for the speed of a vehicle or a person: srre3 chwiya, "speed up a bit". It is also heard in the imperative to rush someone, but in that sense zreb ("to hurry") remains more common in daily life. The verb is transitive: srre3 l-khedma, "speed up the work". In the present you say kaysrre3. The register is neutral and also used in writing. Be careful not to confuse it with sre9 ("to steal"), whose Latin spelling is close. The related noun is sor3a ("speed") and the adjective is sri3 ("fast").

سرّع شوية، راه غادي نعطلو

srre3 chwiya, rah ghadi n3etlo
