t9edda تقدّا
Moroccan Darija · verb
“t9edda” (تقدّا) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to do the shopping, stock up.
Meanings
- to do the shopping, stock up
- to be over, run out
Usage
T9edda, with a doubled consonant, means to do one's shopping, especially household provisions at the market or grocery. The corresponding noun is tt9dia, "the shopping". Examples: mcha y9edda ("he went shopping"), t9edda l-ftour ("to shop for the meal"). It must be distinguished from t9da without doubling, which means "to be finished" or "to be used up": t9da lklam ("there's nothing more to say"), t9da lflous ("the money is gone"). In online spellings the two forms are often confused, and context then settles it.
Example
سير المارشي تقدا
sir lmarchi t9eda
“Go to the market and do the shopping.”
