t9eddem تقدّم

Moroccan Darija · verb

“t9eddem” (تقدّم) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to advance, make progress.

Meanings

  1. to advance, make progress
  2. to propose marriage
  3. to approach someone

Usage

T9eddem means to advance, both literally and figuratively: to make progress in one's studies or work. With the preposition l-, it takes a very common meaning: to present oneself to someone, especially to ask for their hand in marriage, as in t9eddem liha ("he proposed to her"). In colloquial speech, it can also mean going up to approach a girl. The noun ta9addom ("progress") belongs to a more formal register, close to Standard Arabic. Do not confuse this verb with 9eddem ("to present, to offer"), which is transitive.

Example

إمتا غادي ت تقدّم ليها فزواج
