Ta3rif first means definition, at school or in an explanation: chnou howa ta3rif dyal had lkelma ?, "what is the definition of this word?" It is also used for an introduction: ta3rif b rask, "introducing yourself." In daily life, you more often hear the verb 3erref, to introduce or to make known: 3errefni bih, "introduce him to me." The word appears in the administrative expression bitaqat ta3rif, the identity card. In speech, most people simply say lakart.
