tamaman تماما
Moroccan Darija · adverb
“tamaman” (تماما) is an adverb in Moroccan Darija meaning completely, totally.
Meanings
- completely, totally
- exactly, quite so
Usage
Tamaman comes from Standard Arabic and is commonly used in darija, especially in a slightly polished register. It generally goes after what it reinforces: mchat mn bali tamaman, "it completely slipped my mind". It also means "exactly": hadchi tamaman, "that's exactly it". As a reply on its own, it expresses agreement, like "quite so". In casual speech, nichan is often heard instead for "exactly", and b had lkhatar or gā3 for "totally". It is not vulgar and suits all contexts.
Example
مشات من بالي تماما
mchat mn bali tamaman
“It completely slipped my mind.”
