tamrin تمرين

Moroccan Darija · noun

“tamrin” (تمرين) is a noun in Moroccan Darija meaning exercise (school).

Meanings

  1. exercise (school)
  2. physical exercise, training

Usage

Tamrin comes from Standard Arabic and entered darija through school. It mainly refers to a school exercise: had ttamrin s3ib, "this exercise is difficult". It can also apply to a sports exercise. The plural is tamarin. In sports, the adapted French word tmrin, or lexercice, is very often used, and for training ttiran or lentrainement. Since it is often preceded by the article (ttamrin), the initial t seems doubled in speech and in some spellings.

Example

تمرين ساهل بزّاف
