Meanings

- slapping
- deaf (adjective, pronounced differently)
Usage
A very common verb for "to slap", especially on the face, in a colloquial register. It is used in arguments, threats or stories: terchou, "he slapped him". A single blow is tercha, "a slap". Beware of the homograph: written in Arabic without vowels, the same word also serves as an adjective meaning "deaf", and as a noun for "deafness". Pronunciation and context decide. The threat "ghadi ntarchek" corresponds to "I'm going to slap you". It is not an insult, but the word remains colloquial and can sound brutal.
Example
طرشو حيت كذب عليه
terchou hit kdeb 3lih
