Meanings

  1. frying pan
  2. flat-bottomed cooking pan

Usage

Ṭawa is a feminine noun, plural ṭawat. It refers to the flat-bottomed, long-handled utensil used for frying or sautéing: eggs, fish, potatoes. The word belongs to everyday household vocabulary. It is used with the article: ṭ-ṭawa. For a specific item, you can say ṭ-ṭawa dyal l-ḥut, "the fish pan". Do not confuse it with the cooking pot (gdra) or the pressure cooker (ṭanjra d l-poussion or cocotte). Also avoid confusing it with the homophonous adverb in other dialects meaning "now", which does not have that sense in Morocco.
