tebbet تبّت

Moroccan Darija · verb

“tebbet” (تبّت) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to fix, secure firmly.

Meanings

  1. to fix, secure firmly
  2. to make sure, check
  3. to make up one's mind, settle down (tbbet rassek)

Usage

Tebbet means to make something stable, to fix it: a shelf, a nail, an installation. By extension, it is used for software that one installs. With the preposition men, "tebbet men chi haja", it means to check or make sure of something before acting. The expression "tebbet rassek" is said to someone who is hesitant or agitated: "make up your mind", "settle down". Do not confuse it with "tebt", a form of "tab" (to repent, to give up a vice), which does not have the doubled consonant: "tebt men lkdoub" means "I stopped lying". The register is everyday, both familiar and neutral.

تبّت هاد الرّف مزيان فالحيط
