Moroccan Darija · noun

Meanings
- two-piece festive caftan
Usage
The tekchita is the Moroccan festive dress made of two pieces: an underdress and an overdress, often open, held at the waist by a belt (mdemma). It is worn at weddings, engagements and major celebrations. At a wedding, the bride changes several times, each outfit sometimes evoking a region: tekchita fassiya, from Fès, for example. It is either made by a tailor or rented. English speakers often confuse tekchita and caftan: the caftan (qeftan) is a single piece.
