tfawed تفاوض
Moroccan Darija · verb
“tfawed” (تفاوض) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning negotiate, discuss terms.
Meanings
- negotiate, discuss terms
- bargain over a price
Usage
Tfawed belongs to a fairly formal register, close to Standard Arabic. It is heard mostly in the media, at work, in politics or for serious matters. The usual construction is tfawed m3a someone, "to negotiate with", and tfawed 3la something, "to negotiate over, about". For ordinary haggling at the souk, Moroccans more naturally say tsawem or tfahem m3ah. This verb is conjugated like verbs of the tfa3el pattern. In the present, one says kayetfawed. In the second person, the form tfawed can also serve as an imperative.
