tredded تردّد

Moroccan Darija · verb

“tredded” (تردّد) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to hesitate.

Meanings

  1. to hesitate
  2. to frequent, visit often

Usage

Tredded means to hesitate, to not know what to decide. It is often constructed with f (in, on): treddedt f had lqrar (I hesitated over this decision), or in the negative to encourage someone: ma tredded-ch (don't hesitate). The word belongs to a somewhat formal register, of standard Arabic origin. In everyday conversation, people also say bqa mḥiyyer or ma 3ref ma ydir. The sense "to frequent a place", inherited from standard Arabic, is rare in speech and reserved for a refined style.

Example

ما تتردّدش، سوّلني إلا بغيتي شي حاجة

ma ttreddedch, swwelni ila bghiti chi 7aja

“Don't hesitate, ask me if you need anything.”
