tserreb تسرّب
Moroccan Darija · verb
“tserreb” (تسرّب) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to leak (information, exam).
Meanings
- to leak (information, exam)
- to seep in (water, liquid)
Usage
Tserreb is the intransitive form: the thing itself leaks. You say tserreb lmti7an, "the exam leaked", or lma tserreb mn ssqef, "the water seeped in through the ceiling". The corresponding transitive verb is serreb, "to leak, to disclose". There is a pitfall: in bla ma tserreb or 3lach ma bghitich tserreb, the same string of letters is the second person of serreb ("that you leak"). Only context can settle it. The word is common in the news and at school, especially around exam time.
Example
تسرب المتحان وهوما يسدمونا بواحد صعب
tsereb lmti7an ou homa ysedmouna bwa7ed s3eb
“The exam leaked, and they hit us with a hard one.”
