ttani التاني

Moroccan Darija · numeral

“ttani” (التاني) is a numeral in Moroccan Darija meaning second.

Meanings

  1. second
  2. the other (of two)

Usage

Ttani is the ordinal corresponding to jouj (two). It goes after a definite noun: ttabe9 ttani (the second floor), l3am ttani (the second year). The feminine is ttanya: lmerra ttanya (the second time, next time). On its own, it often means "the other": jib ttani (bring the other one). It should not be confused with the adverb tani or 3awtani ("also", "again"), which is spelled almost the same in arabizi but is used without the article. For example, ana tani means "me too".
