ttasel اتصل

Moroccan Darija · verb

“ttasel” (اتصل) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to contact, to reach.

Meanings

  1. to contact, to reach
  2. to call by phone
  3. to connect, be connected

Usage

Ttasel is a verb borrowed from Standard Arabic, of a rather formal register. The person being contacted is introduced by the preposition b-: ttasel biya "contact me", ttaslu bih "they contacted him". It is heard in announcements, on the radio and in administrative or professional exchanges. Among close friends, 3iyyet 3la "to call" is preferred. The sense "to connect" to a network also exists, but it is less common. The pitfall is the preposition: ttasel is not used with a direct object, it always takes b-.
