tyeb طيّب

Moroccan Darija · verb

“tyeb” (طيّب) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to cook, make food.

Meanings

  1. to cook, make food
  2. to cook (a food item)

Usage

Tyyeb is the usual verb for "to cook, to prepare a meal". It is used on its own (kat3ref ttyyeb ? "do you know how to cook?") or with an object (tyyeb l-3cha, "prepare dinner"; tyyeb l-l7em, "cook the meat"). The present is formed with ka-: kanTyyeb, "I cook". The participle tayeb means "cooked", and the simple verb tab means "to cook" or "to ripen" in the intransitive sense. Pitfall: in darija, this word does not have the sense of "good" that it has in Standard Arabic.

واش طيب العشا؟
