tzewej تزوج

Moroccan Darija · verb

“tzewej” (تزوج) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to get married.

Meanings

  1. to get married
  2. to marry someone

Usage

Tzewwej is the usual verb for "to get married". The present is kayetzewwej and the future is ghadi yetzewwej. To say whom someone marries, use b: tzewwej b bent 3ammo (he married his cousin). The participle mzewwej means "married". The word is used in all registers, for men and women alike (tzewwjat). Pitfall for an English speaker: the construction takes b, not a direct object as in "marry someone".

Example
