wehhed وحّد

Moroccan Darija · verb

“wehhed” (وحّد) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to unify, to bring together.

Meanings

  1. to unify, to bring together
  2. to profess God's oneness

Usage

Wehhed, with a doubled h, means "to unify, to bring together, to get people to agree": wehhdo lkelma ("come to an agreement"). Its most frequent everyday use is the expression wehhed llah, literally "profess the oneness of God", said to someone who is angry or anxious to mean "calm down, pull yourself together"; the expected reply is la ilaha illa llah. Note: do not confuse it with wahed ("one") or with the form wahd in wahd ssi ("a certain"), which are very common and are written identically without vowels, which explains the confusions found in sources.

Example

خاصنا نوحّدو الكلمة ديالنا

khassna nwehhdo lkelma dyalna

“We have to come to an agreement.”
