wra ورا

Moroccan Darija · preposition

“wra” (ورا) is a preposition in Moroccan Darija meaning behind (in space).

Meanings

  1. behind (in space)
  2. after, following
  3. after, in pursuit of

Usage

Wra is the common preposition for "behind". It takes pronoun suffixes directly: wraya (behind me), wrak, wrah, wraha. Mn wra means "from behind" or "afterwards, after". Mn wra ma introduces a clause: "after". With a verb of motion, wra expresses pursuit, as in "jri wra" (to run after) or "sir wra" (to follow). Beware of the homograph werra, a verb with a doubled consonant meaning "to show". In written arabizi, the two are often confused, and only context tells them apart.
