wsse3 وسّع

Moroccan Darija · verb

“wsse3” (وسّع) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to widen, to enlarge.

Meanings

  1. to widen, to enlarge
  2. to be patient, calm down
  3. to grant ease (God)

Usage

Wsse3 is the transitive verb derived from wase3 (wide, spacious): you widen a road, enlarge a room, give more space. Figuratively, wsse3 khatrek, literally "widen your heart", is very common: it urges someone to be patient, not to get upset, to take things calmly. In religious formulas, Allah ywsse3 3lik wishes someone material ease. In the present tense, one says kanwsse3; in the imperative, wsse3. Do not confuse it with wse3, which is intransitive and means "to be wide" or "to become wide".
