wzen وزن

Moroccan Darija · verb

“wzen” (وزن) is a verb in Moroccan Darija meaning to weigh.

Meanings

  1. to weigh
  2. weight (noun)
  3. to balance, treat equally (wazen)

Usage

Wzen is first of all a verb: it means to weigh something, on a scale or at the market. The imperfect is yuzen or yewzen. The same word also serves as a noun for weight: nqes men lwazn (to lose weight). The form wazen, with a long a, has a different meaning: to balance, or to treat several people equally. For example, wazen bin wladu (he treats his children the same way). Figuratively, wzen lklam means to weigh one's words. The passive ttwzen (to be weighed) is common among shopkeepers.
