Tunisian Derja · adjective
“7achem” (حاشم) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning ashamed, embarrassed.
Meanings
- ashamed, embarrassed
- shy, reserved
Usage
7achem describes a person who feels shame or embarrassment, or who is naturally reserved. The feminine is 7achma, the plural 7achmin. It is very often heard in the negative: mech 7achem means "he has no shame", "shameless". This is a common reproach, aimed at someone who behaves badly without any scruple. With min, it means "to be ashamed of someone": 7achem mennek. The word is more affective than the French "honteux", which can sound literary. Depending on context, it is better translated as "embarrassed" or "shy".
