Meanings

Usage

Hassa is first of all the feminine participle of hass (to feel, to sense): a woman says hassa rou7i… for "I feel…" or "I have the impression that…". The masculine is hass, the plural hassin. The typical construction is hassa rou7i followed by an adjective or a clause: hassa rou7i fadda (I'm bored), hassa rou7i 3ayecha fi 3alem ekher. As in Standard Arabic, the word also means a faculty of perception, notably in el-hassa es-sadsa (the sixth sense). Pitfall: the form changes with the gender of the speaker.
