Usage
Akadimiya is a learned word, taken as is from Modern Standard Arabic. In conversation, many Tunisians prefer to say "académie" in French, especially for clubs and training centres. It is found more in writing, in the names of institutions and in the media, than in everyday speech. The word is feminine: one says akadimiya kbira. The adjective akadimi ("academic") is also used, notably when talking about university studies.
