Meanings

  1. appear, show up

Usage

Bān is very common in the sense of "to appear, show up": "bān el 9mar" (the moon has appeared). It is often used for someone you no longer see: "ma bāntech" (you don't show up anymore). In the imperfect, the construction "ybānli" is used to express an opinion: "ybānli bech yji" (it seems to me he will come). "Bān 3lih" means that it shows on the person, for example tiredness. Note: in texts written in Arabic script, the same spelling may transcribe French "bain" or the noun "Pan"; in that case it is not the verb.
