bard برد

Tunisian Derja · noun

“bard” (برد) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning cold (weather, sensation).

Meanings

  1. cold (weather, sensation)
  2. a cold (illness)

Usage

Bard means cold, whether of the weather or the physical sensation: fama bard, "it's cold", jani el bard, "I'm cold". It also means a cold (the illness), especially in the expression khdhit bard, "I caught a cold". It should not be confused with the adjective bared, "cold" (of water, of a dish), nor with the verb barred, "to cool down" or "to soothe". The Latin spelling bared is therefore ambiguous online. In barred galbek, "calm your heart", it is the verb, not the noun.

Example

الليلة برد كبير، إلبس حاجة سخونة

el lila bard kbir, elbes 7aja s5ouna

“Tonight it's very cold, put on something warm.”
