bedharoura بضرورة

Tunisian Derja · adverb

“bedharoura” (بضرورة) is an adverb in Tunisian Derja meaning necessarily, of necessity.

Meanings

  1. necessarily, of necessity

Usage

Bedharoura is used mostly in the negative phrase "mouch bedharoura", meaning "not necessarily" or "not obligatorily". It is very common for qualifying something or politely refusing an obligation. In the affirmative, it means "without fail" or "absolutely": "lazem tji bedharoura" (you absolutely must come). The register is neutral and the phrase is understood everywhere. Pitfall: the standard expression "bi-dharourat + noun" ("the necessity of") is not the same adverbial use. It belongs rather to the written Arabic of the media.

Example

موش بضّرورة تجي اليوم، غدوة يعمل.

mouch bedharoura tji lyoum, ghodwa ya3mel.

“You don't necessarily have to come today; tomorrow will be fine.”
