belha بالها

Tunisian Derja · noun

“belha” (بالها) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning her mind, her thoughts.

Meanings

  1. her mind, her thoughts
  2. fi belha: she thinks, she imagines
  3. her attention

Usage

Belha is the noun bel (mind, thought) plus the suffix -ha, "hers". It is used mostly in the phrase fi belha, literally "in her mind", which means "she thinks, she imagines", often wrongly: fi belha elli… In the negative, ma fi belhech or mech fi belha means "she doesn't realize, she isn't thinking about it". The same noun takes the other suffixes: belek (you), beli (me), belou (him). Watch out: rod belek means "pay attention", not "return your mind". Common register, very frequent in speech.

Example

hiya fi belha elli ena za3fen 3liha
