dak داك

Tunisian Derja · pronoun

“dak” (داك) is a pronoun in Tunisian Derja meaning that (masculine).

Meanings

  1. that (masculine)
  2. that one, that thing

Usage

Dak, often pronounced dhak or dek, is the masculine distal demonstrative. It goes before a definite noun: dak er-rajel, "that man". The feminine is dik or dhika, and the plural douk or dhouma. The long form hedheka is more emphatic. It can be used alone to mean "that one". The expression ach dak, literally "what brought you", means "why on earth", as in ach dak t7ki, "what makes you talk like that". Note that dak does not refer to something nearby: for that, hedha is used.
