Meanings

Usage
Dar means house, both as a dwelling and as a home. With a possessive, it means "at the home of": darna (our place), darha (her place). Followed by a family name, it denotes the family itself: dar bouha (her father's family), dar ennsib (the in-laws). The same word is also a verb meaning "to turn" or "to do": dar dora (to take a stroll), dar fih (he played a trick on him). Context distinguishes the noun from the verb. For "apartment", one rather says apartman or dar, depending on the region.
