Tunisian Derja · verb
“dhhar” (ظهر) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to seem, appear (to someone).
Meanings
- to seem, appear (to someone)
- to appear, show up
- to think, have the impression
Usage
In its most common sense, dhhar is almost always used with an indirect pronoun: yodhhorli "it seems to me", yodhhorlek "it seems to you". Ydhhorli is used to give a cautious opinion: "I think that, in my opinion". In the past, dhharli means "I had the impression". Without a pronoun, the verb means "to appear, to show up": dhhar fjé'a, "he suddenly appeared". Beware of homographs: the same Arabic spelling can also be read dhhar, "the back", and dhohr, "noon, the noon prayer". Context decides.
