douri دوري
Tunisian Derja · expression
“douri” (دوري) is an expression in Tunisian Derja meaning my turn (in a sequence).
Meanings
- my turn (in a sequence)
- it's my go
Usage
Douri is formed from dour, "turn, passage in an order", followed by the first-person possessive. It is used to claim one's turn in a game, in a queue, at the wheel or in sharing out tasks: "hédha douri" (it's my turn), "taw douri" (now it's my turn). The word takes the other possessives: dourek (your turn), dourou (his turn), dourna (our turn). It belongs to the everyday, casual register. Pitfall: the same Arabic spelling can also be read dawri, "championship, league", a Standard Arabic term. In Tunisia, el btoula is used instead for the football championship.
