Tunisian Derja · noun
“ezzine” (الزين) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning beauty.
Meanings
- beauty
- what is beautiful, the good
Usage
Ezzine is beauty, especially physical, or whatever is beautiful and pleasant. The word appears in compliment formulas: y3ich ezzine, roughly "long live beauty". It is also found in ironic turns of phrase, for example win howa ezzine?, "so where is the beauty?". On its own, zine can serve as an adjective ("beautiful, good") or as a female first name, hence some ambiguity. The word is somewhat more expressive or poetic than mezyen, the usual adjective for "beautiful". It is very common in songs.
