Usage
In everyday life in Tunisia, farth first means the in-class test at primary school, middle school or high school: "3andi farth fel math ghodwa". The plural is fourouth. It is distinct from the national exam. The word also keeps the general sense of "imposing" in expressions close to Standard Arabic, common in the media: farth el9anoun (enforcing the law), farth e7tiram (imposing respect). In religion, it refers to an obligatory prayer or act. The corresponding verb is fredh/yefredh, "to impose". Do not translate it as "homework".
