“ghalet” (غالط) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning mistaken, in the wrong.
Meanings
- mistaken, in the wrong
- wrong, incorrect
Usage
Ghalet is the participle of ghlet (to make a mistake). It mainly describes a person who is mistaken: "inti ghalet" (you're mistaken, you're wrong). The feminine is ghalta and the plural is ghaltin. It also applies to something incorrect: "7seb ghalet" (a wrong calculation), "noumrou ghalet" (a wrong number). To contradict someone, the phrase "ghalet!" is blunt but common. The verb ghalet ("ghaltouni") has another meaning: "to deceive, mislead". Do not confuse the two.
