“ghayor” (غيور) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning jealous (in love).

Meanings

  1. jealous (in love)
  2. devoted to, caring about (one's country)

Usage

Ghayour first describes a person who is jealous in love. It is used mostly of a man who is protective of his wife or family, and the word is not necessarily pejorative. The feminine is "ghayoura". In the figurative sense, very common in political commentary, "ghayour 3la tounes" describes someone who sincerely cares about their country and its future. The corresponding verb is "ygheer" (to be jealous). Note: ghayour is not used for envy of a material possession. For that, one says "7assed" or speaks of "3in".
