ghodwika غدويكا
Tunisian Derja · adverb
“ghodwika” (غدويكا) is an adverb in Tunisian Derja meaning the next day.
Meanings
- the next day
- later on, afterwards
Usage
Ghodwika refers to the day after a moment already mentioned, which serves as the reference point. It differs from ghodwa, which means "tomorrow" relative to today. It is used mainly in narration or in reasoning: "Sunday, and the next day Monday". In a looser sense, it means "later, once the situation has changed". The construction min ghodwika, "from the very next day", is common. The word is colloquial and spoken. The pitfall for an English speaker is to translate it as "tomorrow"; it should be understood as "the day after".
Example
وصل نهار السبت و من غدويكا بدا يخدم
wsol nhar es-sebt w men ghodwika bda yekhdem
“He arrived on Saturday and started working the very next day.”
