Tunisian Derja · noun
“glace” (ڨلاس) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning ice cream.
Meanings
- ice cream
Usage
Glace is the common French loanword in Tunisia for ice cream, whether in a cone, a cup or on a stick. It is pronounced roughly as in French, with a hard g, and is used in everyday conversation, especially in summer. It is often built with the preposition b- to indicate the flavour: glace bel fraise, "a strawberry ice cream". Note: the word does not mean ice in the sense of frozen water, nor a mirror. For an English speaker, the meaning is therefore narrower than the French word it comes from.
Example
نحب ناكل ڨلاس بالشكلاطة
n7eb nekel glace bel chkoulata
“I want to eat a chocolate ice cream.”
