Tunisian Derja · pronoun

“hadhika” (هذيكا) is a pronoun in Tunisian Derja meaning that one (feminine).

Meanings

  1. that one (feminine)
  2. that … (feminine, after noun)

Usage

Hadhika is the feminine demonstrative of distance, the equivalent of "that one" or "that …". The masculine is hadhaka and the plural hadhoukom. It is used alone (hadhika mte3i, "that one is mine") or after a definite noun: el karhba hadhika, "that car". This postposition often puzzles English speakers, since the noun must carry the article el. There is also the short form hadhi for proximity ("this one"). The word is very common in speech throughout the country. Depending on the region, variants such as hadhik are heard.
