janfi جانفي
Tunisian Derja · noun
“janfi” (جانفي) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning January (month).
Meanings
- January (month)
Usage
In Tunisia, months are named after the French: "janfi", "fivri", "mars", etc. Eastern names such as "kanoun ethani" are almost absent from usage, and "yanayir" remains rare. This word is therefore a fully integrated loanword, used in speech as well as in the media. The best-known case is "14 janfi", the date of the 2011 revolution, which has become an expression in its own right. Dates are built simply: the number followed by the month name, for example "11 janfi".
Example
نرجع في جانفي إن شاء الله.
nerja3 fi janfi inchallah.
“I'll be back in January, God willing.”
