Meanings

  1. to drag, pull
  2. to drag (someone) into

Usage

Jarr means "to drag, to pull behind one"; imperfect "yjorr". It is used for a heavy object pulled along the ground, a suitcase, or a person taken along by force. Figuratively, "jarrou l-mochkla" means "he dragged him into the affair". For "to pull" in the general sense, the most common verb remains "jbed", whereas jarr stresses friction and slowness. In school contexts, "harf jarr" is the grammatical term for "preposition". Note: the same spelling can also correspond to a badly split "ajr" or to "jorh", "wound".
