jib جيب
Tunisian Derja · noun
“jib” (جيب) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning pocket (of a garment).
Meanings
- pocket (of a garment)
Usage
Jib refers to the pocket of trousers, a jacket or a shirt. The plural is jyoub. It is often used with a possessive: jibi, jibek. The expression men jibi means "from my pocket", that is, "at my own expense". Watch out for the pitfall: the same spelling also corresponds to the very frequent imperative jib, "bring", from the verb jéb, "to bring". Jib el ma, for example, means "bring the water". In texts, the imperative actually predominates, and only the context can decide between the two meanings.
