kardouna كردونة

Tunisian Derja · noun

“kardouna” (كردونة) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning cardboard box.

Meanings

  1. cardboard box
  2. cardboard (material)

Usage

Kardouna is the adapted loanword from French "carton". It is the usual term for a cardboard box: for a house move, a parcel or storage. You say "kardounet el mé3oun" (the box of dishes), with a linking t before a complement. The usual plural is kradin. The word also refers to the material itself. Figuratively, it can describe a thing or a person with no substance, "made of cardboard". Note: it does not correspond to the French "carton" meaning an invitation card, nor to the yellow card in football.

Example

حط الكتب الكل في كردونة.

7ot lkotb lkol fi kardouna.
