khtar خطر

Tunisian Derja · noun

“khtar” (خطر) is a noun in Tunisian Derja meaning danger.

Meanings

  1. danger
  2. risk

Usage

Khtar, also pronounced khatar, means danger or risk. It appears in "fih khtar" (it's risky), "khtar mout" (danger of death, often on signs) or "hatt rouhou fil khtar" (he put himself in danger). To say that something is dangerous, one rather uses the adjective khatir or "fih khtar". The register is neutral. Pitfall: do not confuse this word with khater, "because" (in "3la khater"), whose Arabic spelling is very close.

Example

ما تعومش غادي، فيه خطر

ma t3oumch ghadi, fih khtar

“Don't swim over there, it's dangerous.”
