lbes لبس
Tunisian Derja · verb
“lbes” (لبس) is a verb in Tunisian Derja meaning to wear, put on.
Meanings
- to wear, put on
- to get dressed
Usage
Lbes (imperfect: yelbes) means to put on or wear clothing, shoes or jewellery: "lbes sabbat" (he put on his shoes). Used without an object, it means "to dress", often with a specification of manner: "yelbes mlè7" (he dresses well). The corresponding noun is "lbès" (clothing, attire), and "lebsa" refers to an outfit. Note: English, like French, distinguishes "put on" from "wear", whereas lbes covers both senses. The imperative is "elbes". To "dress someone", the causative form "lebbes" is used.
