lebes لابس
Tunisian Derja · adjective
“lebes” (لابس) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning dressed, clothed.
Meanings
- dressed, clothed
- wearing (clothing, jewelry)
Usage
Lèbes (feminine lebsa, plural lebsin) is the participle of the verb lbes, "to get dressed, to wear". It indicates the state: lèbes kabbout, "he is wearing a coat"; 3lèch lèbes hakka ?, "why are you dressed like that?". It takes the garment directly, without a preposition. The pitfall is confusing it with labès, "fine, well". The two look alike in arabizi but are different words. Context tells them apart.
Example
علاش لابس هكّا اليوم؟
3lech lebes hakka lyoum?
“Why are you dressed like that today?”
