lwin لوين

Tunisian Derja · adverb

“lwin” (لوين) is an adverb in Tunisian Derja meaning where to (with motion).

Meanings

  1. where to (with motion)
  2. how far

Usage

Lwin is used to ask about a destination, with verbs of motion: "lwin mechi?" (where are you going?). It is the form win (where) preceded by the preposition l- (to). For a place without movement, one simply says win: "win enti?" (where are you?). Many speakers use win in both cases; lwin nonetheless remains very common and precise. The word is also used in indirect questions: "ma n3arch lwin mchet" (I don't know where she went).
