Meanings

Usage
Mal-youm is the contracted form of "min el-youm" (from today). It is used to mark a starting point in time: a decision, a change of habit, a resolution. It often comes at the start of a sentence, followed by a future verb with bech or by a construction with walla (to become): "mal-youm walla…". In online writing, the contraction is almost always written as a single word. The register is informal and common. Note: with negation, the nuance changes; "mal-youm" can also be understood as "already today, from this day" in a wish or a regret.
