matroud مطرود
Tunisian Derja · adjective
“matroud” (مطرود) is an adjective in Tunisian Derja meaning dismissed, expelled from a place.
Meanings
- dismissed, expelled from a place
- fired, sacked
- driven away, rejected by someone
Usage
Passive participle of the verb tred (to drive away, to dismiss), used as an adjective. One says matroud mel ma9ra for a pupil expelled from school, matroud mel khedma for an employee who has been fired, or matroud men dar bouh for someone thrown out by their family. The word also applies to people expelled from a country. It keeps a nuance of humiliation: to be matroud is to have been thrown out, not simply to have left. Feminine matrouda, plural matroudin. For a voluntary departure, kharej or mcha is used instead.
Example
